1 Poem by Michael Spring

goat rock

I stood
as a rocky ledge
overlooking
the canyon

fallen into
a waking dream
I communed

with the embodiment
of a distant
storm

*

a goat beside me
lifted
its head
as if to bleat

but it wasn’t
a goat
it was an outcrop
of rock –

rock
like boiling water –
an argument

against contentment
